Current Drama Fave: Go Princess Go

Image
Hey all! I just want to drop by quickly to recommend a new drama called Go Princess Go, which was produced entirely for web broadcasting. There is not much "wow" factor in this little drama besides some very hilarious lines and an attractive cast. If you like to watch lighthearted, brainless romantic comedy without having to think too much, I highly recommend this series. There are certainly huge plot holes, bloopers, exaggerated acting, weird costumes, cheap props, but somehow the OTP of the story compensates for many flaws of the production, which suffers from extreme shortage of funds. It's been awhile since I've been passionate about a series. Just wanted to take this opportunity to share my new-found interest with you all.

Nirvana in Fire Character Profiles

The political plotting and myrid of characters in Nirvana in Fire or Lang Ya Bang may get a little overwhelming for non-Chinese speakers. When I was first exposed to the story, I got drowned in the many names and relationships of the characters. I hope the character profiles will give you a better understanding of the story as well as the trailer.

Legend of Fragrance BTS Weddings

It is one day away from the official release date of Legend of Fragrance. Hunan TV will be airing two episodes per night and take a brief hiatus during the Lunar New Year to broadcast New Year related programming. In a recent press conference interview, Shu Chang revealed that although Huizi is the aggressive in her pursuit of An Yichen early in the story, An Yichen will actually take more of the initiative in the later half of the story. Now...I am extremely curious how much of the initial An Yichen will take to pursue Huizi. But no matter how much An Yichen later loves Huizi, it's hard to forgive him for forcing her to get an abortion (not sure if the baby actually was aborted). The scriptwriter loves to add in unnecessary twists and turns. I heard that there were nine weddings in the drama, and most of them weren't successful. In fact, Huizi got married twice. I believe her first marriage is to the main lead, Ning Zhiyuan, but later they divorced and she marries An Yiche

William Chan and Shu Chang's pairing in Legend of Fragrance + Teaser

I am getting more and more excited about William Chan and Shu Chang pairing in Legend of Fragrance . As mentioned in my previous post, Shu Chang plays a young Japanese lady named "Keiko" or Huizi in Chinese romanization while William Chan is An Yichen, a Chinese doctor/inspector with a family vendetta. Although I have a penchant for poignant tormented love stories, I dread tragic endings and try to avoid them like how I avoid cockroaches.  But somehow the onscreen chemistry of the secondary lead couple in this Republican-era drama convinced me to hop on their sinking ship boat. And I'm not alone. Chinese netizens are quickly jumping on this sinking boat with me due to William Chan and Shu Chang's unexpected onscreen chemistry. The musical score (from the same composer who created Chinese Paladin 1 and 3) I'm hearing so far definitely enhances their pending tragedy and heartache. My gut feeling tells me that William Chan and Shu Chang's performance may outs

Rooting for the secondary couple in Legend of Fragrance

I just want to drop a quick hello and talk about my latest interest in Chinese dramaland. And sorry for the silence these past two months! Nothing has really piqued my interest to write until I watched a MV for the upcoming Hunan TV series Legend of Fragrance,  starring Tiffany Tang Yan and Li Yifeng. The premise of this drama is neither refreshing nor brilliant. The plot basically consists of typical Chinese melodramatic angst, revenge, unrequited love, love triangle, family feud, etc. Two handsome guys will fall in love with Girl No.1 (Tiffany Tang). Girl No.1 initially has crush on Guy No.2 (played by William Chan), while Guy No.1 (played by Li Yifeng) madly pursues Girl No.1, the Hana Yori Dango -style. Then comes the villainous Girl No.2 (played by Shu Chang) who is infatuated with Guy No.2 and even took advantage of his "body". The new splash in this otherwise typical drama formula is that Guy No.2 will learn to love Girl No.2. In sum, Guy No.2 and Girl No.2 are my
